The city of Rouen proudly presents its Armada event this year (8 - 18 June 2023), a recurring spectacle that takes place every 5 to 7 years. The Armada showcases an impressive fleet of around 50 maritime vessels. Although the majority are historic sailboats with three or four masts, there's also an array of more recent sailboats and several modern boats, often including warships from various nations.
Getting to the Armada event is straightforward, whether you're traveling by road or rail - it's just an hour from Paris. Numerous signs guide visitors to the site, and regular shuttle buses are available. Several complimentary parking areas on the outskirts of Rouen facilitate the arrival of guests. The Zenith parking lot, in particular, is recommended due to its convenience. From there, the TEOR bus operates at 4-minute intervals, ensuring you reach the Armada within a matter of minutes.
Security
Safety and security are prioritized, with a strong presence of law enforcement and military personnel at virtually every turn, including bus stops. Police are also deployed to manage pedestrian traffic at intersections.
The Venue
The Armada event is set on the city's two main quays, where you'll find the various boats berthed. Alongside the maritime spectacle, you can indulge in a variety of food stands, browse information stalls, or relax in one of the many restaurants and bars. A festive atmosphere is created by live music throughout the day, and in the evening, free concerts and fireworks light up the night sky as all ships glow in radiant illumination.

Visitors can also embark on guided tours aboard cruising boats. These tours offer a river perspective of the entire fleet while providing informative commentary.
The Ships
The 50-ship display includes several vessels open to the public for onboard visits, though availability may vary. Hence, it's advisable to check the visiting schedules. Some of these ships may occasionally depart for brief voyages.
Tall Ships
The Armada's fleet features large sail ships, often with three or four masts, many of which serve as naval training ships.

Sail Ships
You'll also spot a significant number of smaller, older sailboats, most of which are beautifully restored vintage fishing vessels.

Modern Ships
Additionally, modern ships make their presence felt. From navy warships such as minesweepers and patrol boats to the peculiar-looking vessels that transport the Ariane 6 rocket, there's plenty to intrigue the modern maritime enthusiast.

The Parade
One of the event's highlights is the Parade on June 18th, when all the boats break formation and set course for the open sea. This voyage up the Seine river to the sea, between Le Havre and Honfleur, takes 4 - 5 hours and attracts millions of spectators along the river banks. To enhance the spectacle, the French Air Force's stunt team, the Patrouille de France, will perform flypasts.
For an optimal Armada experience, it's advisable to download the event's comprehensive smartphone app. It provides details about all the boats, stalls, and entertainment schedules, and it's free of charge.
