Honfleur is a charming town with cobblestone streets, boutique shops, a unique church, and delightful restaurants. Recently, Honfleur has added a new attraction: La Mora.
La Mora, named after William the Conqueror’s Viking ship (click here to read more about the ship on Wikipedia) used to invade Britain in 1060, is being carefully recreated in Honfleur. This replica is far from complete and is being built by hand using tools and techniques from the Viking era. Without any original plans, the construction is a meticulous and slow process.

La Mora is located on the other side of the Honfleur harbor. There are several buildings and in the middle an area you can rest.
Visiting the La Mora site is more than just watching a ship being built. It's an immersive journey through the history of William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy. As you enter the exhibit, you move through rooms with floor-to-ceiling screens showing life-size characters that vividly depict historical events from over 1,000 years ago.

After the presentation, you cross a small road to see the actual La Mora replica under construction. Here, craftsmen from around the world are hard at work, using traditional methods. You can interact with them, ask questions, and read explanatory signs detailing their efforts. The project will take several years to complete, but it’s a fascinating sight even now.
The site also features a restaurant and ample parking, offering a contrast to the crowded streets of Honfleur. Plus, it provides a beautiful view of the town and harbor.
In conclusion, La Mora is a must-visit for all ages. Check their website for presentation times in your language. Don't miss out on this enriching experience.
